You know, even though I LOVE Ultimate X-Men, on this site I tend to neglect it for some reason. Probably because there is soooooooo much stuff to discuss in regular Marvel Earth 616 continuity. That being said, I thought issue #97 was one of the best issues of Ultimate X-Men. I love that Brian K. Vaughn wrote some of this title a year or so back and the entire Ultimate universe does have kind of a Y the Last Man feel (probably my favorite non-Marvel comic, almost died when I found out Vertigo was an imprint of DC comics!). It's so crazy how everyone in the ultimate universe is so jaded. Moira selling banshee? Crazy! Moira having Banshee's powers when she's on Banshee? Crazy! I love it. Professor X being SO into Jean is a little creepy though (but in a good creepy characterization sorta way). He certainly does get around a lot more than 616 Professor X...Mystique, Emma Frost, Moira, Lilandra, am I missing any of his conquests?

I have three major issues with Ultimate X-Men in general.
  1. I don't know why Colossus is the gay character. I'm all for gay characters in comics, but I think someone like Iceman would've been a better choice. Kitty and Spider-man is pretty cool, but I LOVE Kitty and Peter, and in this continuity there's none of that.
  2. Storm, I do much prefer in 616. Some of the coolest things about her, to me, is that she's Kenyan and was worshipped as a Goddess when Professor X found her.
  3. Finally, I find it a needless change that Alex Summers is older than Cyclops. No matter what, I can't seem to think of Havok as Scott's older brother, for some reason I just have a block with it.

Maybe, in time, I can let go of these things. I enjoy this book sooo much more than I ever thought I would once I finally picked it up. What do you guys think?

I see. And it's not very cool when you want to talk about Ultimate X-Men and nobody is interested. Well I love to Brian K. Vaughn writing the title. Then is really crazy time in Ultimate Universe now. Not that I don't like fast crazy things like a crossover, but I just simply miss the speed necessary to enjoy the story. And finally the Professor X romances are many for sure. You never know what woman or girl he will like. I wouldn't be surprise if he tells Storm that he loves her. And speaking of "you never know" maybe he has a crush on Magnus. )

I totally agree. I mean is OK if they don't do a Kitty/Piotr romance(although I like it very much, especially with Kitty missing in 616 continuity), but they can make anybody a gay. Not everyone can be one. And his relationship with Northstar is one of the worst.

Storm, I do much prefer in 616. Some of the coolest things about her, to me, is that she's Kenyan and was worshipped as a Goddess when Professor X found her.

Agree and not. I love the fact 616 Storm is worshipped as goddess. She is truly one. But I love the moroccan 1610 Storm. Exploring the past of a thief turned in a hero would be one of the coolest things. I love both Storms, which one of them fits perfectly in her universe.

Finally, I find it a needless change that Alex Summers is older than Cyclops. No matter what, I can't seem to think of Havok as Scott's older brother, for some reason I just have a block with it.

Join the club. You know this is the best big brother(Scott)/baby brother(Alex) relationship. Is stupid that they changed it just because they want something different.

Ultimate X-Men #97 is the best issue in years but I don't think it equals Mark or Brian Vaughn work. Still I know that Ultimatum and UX will be a good and captivating story.

Not everyone can be one. And his relationship with Northstar is one of the worst. They are the most boring gay couple ever and for some reason seem to have absolutely no chemistry. If they are so into change for the sake of change, why did they make Northstar gay again? I mean, yeah, it works, but that's only because it's an easy transition from regular Marvel to Ultimate with him being gay. I love the moroccan 1610 Storm. Exploring the past of a thief turned in a hero would be one of the coolest things. I love both Storms, which one of them fits perfectly in her universe. When you put it like that, it kind of sells me on it this is the best big brother(Scott)/baby brother(Alex) relationship. Is stupid that they changed it just because they want something different.Yeah, if you're going to make changes in character, make them meaningful changes, not just changes for the sake of changes. Ultimate X-Men #97 is the best issue in years but I don't think it equals Mark or Brian Vaughn work.Agreed, Vaughn is truly an artist and brings all comics he writes for to a whole new amazing level. This issue seemed to have it all though, Colossus maybe not being able to change back after Wolverine pulled his heart out! Sooo cool! Jean being Phoenix. Cyclops losing it. I was into it!

Agree with the first and last. I like Storm being American and pretty edgy. She's almost like the 80's Storm which is my favorite era of Storm. I don't think any of the main characters who aren't gay, should be. And I hate the Havok being older.

I haven't picked up this issue, and probably won't until it comes out in a novel. Is it true that Ultimate X-men may be coming to an end?
